If you like having privacy for the bedroom in your studio apartment theses glass partition or curtains can be a great way to achieve it without blocking the light and without creating a permanent barrier in the space because they're movable (image below) so you can easily remove the partition to have the whole room as one space at any time.

2. Using dressers as low partitions that define the space.

If you don't like having a partition that takes away the openness of the space in your studio apartment but yet you'd like to achieve a certain distinction between the different areas in the space, dressers, drawers and storage units can act as low gentle partition in a small studio apartment. this way the space feels divided into specific functional areas but we still maintain the visual continuity in the apartment.

3. Minimalism

Having a small studio apartment can be a blessing sometimes, because it forces you to have a minimalist lifestyle. More space = more stuff that you don't need.
my advice for people living in small studio apartments is when you first move in, don't rush in buying furniture, buy the necessary things to survive the first couple of weeks and try to experience living in the empty apartment. This way you will have the time to think about the furniture that you really need and use and maybe you'll feel the comfort of it and become a minimalist yourself. Do you really need a bed or a mattress is enough? just wondering!

4. Area Rugs

If you'd like to define areas in a space, use area rugs in your studio. as you can see in the image below the area rug beautifully defines the living area from the rest of the room without adding any kind of separation between the two.

5. One unified big space

you can still create a separation without having a physical partition (it doesn't make sense does it?) by having a bigger distance where you'd like this separation to happen. 
As you can see in the image below the way they arranged the furniture gives you the feeling that the space next to the bed is defining the sleeping area from the living area.

6. Small space - Big furniture

Sometimes people are afraid to use big pieces of furniture in small apartments but I've tried it myself and it works. I just moved into a small studio apartment and I got myself a king sized mattress, it was a courageous decision but I love it. Big furniture gives the space a feeling of comfort that manipulates the mind to perceive the space as bigger than what it really is.

7. Light is the most important thing in a living space.

in small apartments usually natural light comes from one side of the space so I would advise you to try to avoid blocking the light coming through by placing any vertical partitions as far away as possible from the windows or balconies to allow for the maximum amount of light to reach every inch of the space. bookshelves are a great idea to create a separation between different functions without blocking the light completely. take advantage of the sunlight!

8. Levels!

I am fascinated by the idea of having different levels in apartments. and especially if it was created for functional and aesthetic reasons.

9. Behaviors are what defines your living space.

there is a million way to achieve what you desire and what makes you comfortable. Just think about your daily routines and think of the best possible way that you can design your space to best accommodate all the activities that you do. for example in the image below, the counter table creates a nice separation but yet it is still counted as part of both the kitchen and living room because it's obvious that the people who live in this apartment like to eat while watching tv. and that's exactly the kind of behavior that the design should be based upon.  individualism.

10. Personalisation.

Finally, personalisation is the most important way to feel at home in your new apartment. Adding your personal touches , photos, paintings, decorations and things that you are passionate about can instantly create a sense of belonging between the individual and the space and it can increase the positive energy in the new apartment and makes it more enjoyable. And that's why I believe that the design of each apartment should reflect the owner's personality, passions and interests.
